Young women are frequently called "krasna devitsa" (beautiful virgin/maiden) in folk tales, etc., and red is traditionally the most beautiful, regal color in Russian lore and art. So red wedding dresses make perfect sense! Thanks for the lovely stuff you post.

On the other hand, wearing white is associated with death and mourning, so it's traditionally seen as taboo for the bride to wear white. Although a lot of this is changing due to globalization, and plenty of Chinese brides choose to wear white Western-style gowns instead.
